USB Circus Cannon Kit

At first the Canon PowerShot S95 appear to be yet another point-and-shoot camera: small and compact, black and stylish. Then a quick look over the specifications and external control feature leads you to think otherwise.

Canon PowerShot S95 details:

The CCD has 10.0 megapixels; the lens is a fast f2 zoom including a range from 28-105mm (as a 35 SLR equivalent).

In exposure mode, it has access to Program AE as well as shutter and aperture priority plus manual.
With the hybrid IS system theCanon PowerShot S95 allows for a more improved image stabilisation, reducing camera shake by the equivalent of four f stops.

The Canon PowerShot S95 has a High Dynamic Range mode achieved by simultaneously taking 3 pictures with distinctive exposures, then joining them into a distinct photo by using in-camera software.

Maximum image dimensions is 3648 x 2736 pixels, enabling a 31 x 23 cm print to be made at three hundred dpi. Movies at 1280 x 720 pixels at thirty fps.

The marvelous news keeps coming: you can also shoot pictures in JEPG and RAW in addition to simultaneous RAW JPEG files saved to the memory card.

The down side is the maximum continuous speed is 1.9 images/second with focus and exposure set before you take a picture; if you desire continuous focus, the capture rate is seven frames per 10 seconds. The Canon PowerShot S95 will continue shooting as long as you hold on the shutter button.

  • Quality: Pin sharp images, fabulous tonal range.
  • Distortion: There was not any sign of any distortion with the zoom lens set at wide and tele. An excellent performance.
  • Startup Time: It took fewer than two seconds from power on to 1st shot. Follow-ons about 1 second apart.

Overall:
There’s not much to criticize, with the exception of the all-black finish makes the top power and shutter controls (also in black) being hard to see.

I found the Canon PowerShot S95 a pleasure to use, very pro and quick.

Why you would choose the Canon PowerShot S95: you would like a vari-angle LCD screen; you should use RAW capture.
Why you wouldn’t: the camera does not shoot Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels; it does not offer Adobe RGB colour space.

Importantly though, this is a very exceptional digital camera.
